BABIES AND CHILDREN UNDER THIRTY MONTHS – FLEDGLINGS

Image of a bay playing Naturally you will find it hard to leave your baby for the first time. We work closely with you, developing a warm relationship through a series of visits, so that we are able to understand your needs, reassure you and provide the care that you are looking for.

We will also follow your child’s sleeping and eating patterns to ensure that their home routine is maintained. Once your child starts with us you are given daily feedback so that you have a full picture of your child’s day and you are encouraged to ring as often as you like (although of course we would always ring you immediately if we had any concerns!).

In fact, the children invariably find this initial parting much easier than you do, enjoying the interaction with the other children and staff and such an exciting array of things to do! Knowing your child is safe, happy and being looked after by such a friendly and competent team will enable you to enjoy your day without any worries.

The children have a wide range of things to do. These are carefully planned to suit the varying ages and stages of the children attending. Image of a group of children with an assistant

They include -
  • Music and Movement
  • Discovery - using a large selection of toys
  • Exploration - Treasure baskets using natural objects
  • Heuristic Play - again with natural objects
  • Montessori Activities
  • Outside Play
  • Construction, Puzzles and Toys
  • Role Play and Dressing Up
  • Art and Craft Activities

Mid-morning and mid-afternoon, the children are offered a wholesome snack, such as fruit, vegetable sticks or a home-made biscuit as well as a drink and then go outside to play in the garden. At lunch-time our delicious home-cooked meals are served liquidised or lumpy for the younger children according to their stage of weaning. The babies of course are given their bottles, whenever required.

We change nappies regularly and work with you when it comes to potty training.

SPECIAL PERSON

Image of a group of children playing with soft stuffYour child will become fond of all our staff members, but we allocate a special person, whose role is to give particular care and attention to your child and who is your focal point for feedback on day-to-day events and progress.

BIRTH TO THREE MATTERS

Image of child on climbing net

In the Fledglings’ Room and during the early stages of the nursery schools, we use the ‘Birth to Three Matters’ framework launched by the DfES in 2005 to support all those with responsibility for the care and education of babies and children from birth to three. It identifies four aspects of children’s development, incorporating

  • A strong child
  • A skilful communicator
  • A competent learner
  • A healthy child

Children are given many opportunities to build on their experiences through play and a balanced programme of activities. This is excellent guidance. It is not a curriculum for the under three's.

The Montessori philosophy ties in perfectly and will be clearly evident encouraging the children to develop socially, gain independence, self-confidence and be fully prepared to enter the Nursery School at around two-and-a-half years old.

QUIET ROOMS

Image of child playing with objects Children who like to rest quietly can sleep here undisturbed. Another room is used for younger babies and small groups for peaceful, relaxed activities away from the hubbub of the larger room.
